I guess I prefer the slow burn of an EB2 playthrough compared to the faster pace of the modern game. There's something so much more rewarding to me in the older total wars compared to the newer titles (which I still love btw, played Warhammer 2 for several hundred hours, Three Kingdoms has too much time spent on it). And last year I really only played Divide and Conquer and Stainless Steel. I've only played EB2 since the turn of the new year. In general though, I can't stand the provincial system implemented in Empire, auto-replenishment, etc. I'd have to disagree from my perspective, which mainly pertains to modded versions of the older games.
